A tradition for many attending Blizzcon in Anaheim is a trip to Disneyland which is with in walking distance of the Anaheim Convention Center (it is basically the next block over). So for those that might think of taking a trip to the Happiest Place on Earth, what should traditional Con goers be aware of if they haven’t visited before?
First and foremost, it is going to be packed. Traditionally Blizzcon would fall a bit later in November but thanks to the first weekend being literally the 1st and 2nd this year, it brings the convention up against some busy dates for the Disney parks. Oh and also that whole Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge thing raising attendance levels, but we’ll get to that later.
Blizzcon weekend is squeezed between a couple historically busy days with Halloween on October 31st and Dapper Day on November 3rd. Halloween evening, and some evenings before the 31st, will be blocked out for a special ticketed event called the Oogie Boogie Bash – A Disney Halloween Party (formerly Mickey’s Halloween Party) at Disney’s California Adventure. Now if you love Halloween, love Disney, really love Disney Villains – this is a party to check out. You’ll also get to experience the new Villainous show which will temporarily replace World of Color as the nighttime show. It is note worthy that the Halloween party is not at Disneyland Park this year because – Star Wars of course.
On the other side of Blizzcon will be Dapper Day at Disneyland and you can read all about it on their website at http://dapperday.com/ .
Okay so the other part of this whole busy period is the inevitable impact Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge will have. As many Blizzard fans share a similar love for the universe of the Sith and those Jedi scum, there is going to be a natural attraction to try to squeeze it in as well. Keep in mind, stand by line wait times are going to be extensive and a lot of patience is going to be needed. It would be highly recommended to get the Disneyland Park App for your phone and really learn the Fastpass system that is available. If you traditionally go to Walt Disney World it is important to note the Fastpass system is going to be slightly different, so we’ll do a refresher in a future article.
So if you normally add Disneyland to your Blizzcon trip or looking to make it there for the first time, just prepare for crowds but also don’t discount the unique events taking place during Blizzcon weekend!
